Flood: Nigerian Air Force deploys medical team to Niger State

Air Force (NAF) has deployed a team of medical experts to Zungeru in Wushishi Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State as part of humanitarian efforts geared towards alleviating the plights of the victims of the recent flood that ravaged the State.

The Nigerian Air Force medical outreach, which has commenced is expected to cater to the health needs of about 5,000 members of the Zungeru community.

The NAF medical team was led by the Director of Public Health and Humanitarian Services, Headquarters NAF, Group Captain Azubuike Chukwuka.

Group Captain Chukwuka stated that the Nigerian Air Force medical services that would be provided included health and visual acuity checks, de-worming of children as well as provision of prescription eye glasses, treated mosquito nets and required medication.

He said: “minor surgical procedures would be carried out for patients with surgical needs.”

It would be recalled that the NAF also recently held a special medical intervention in Shinkafi, Zamfara State, where about 4,600 Internally Displaced Persons, who were victims of armed banditry, benefited from medical care.

President Muhammad Buhari only a few days ago, ordered the release of N3billion naira to help victims of flood across the country, especially Delta State, Anambra, Kogi, Benue and Niger who seem to have been worst hit by the flood.
The recent operation or medical outreach by the Nigerian Air Force is not coming as a surprise as although in recent past they have consistently carried out medical outreach across the country, especially within host communities, the latest move must have been from the Presidency.

The Presidency only a few days ago, after ordering the National Emergency Agency (NEMA) to declare a National disaster in flood-ravaged areas when the need arises, also ordered the Military, especially the Nigerian Air Force to also aid in rescue operation alongside the NEMA.
The Vice President Professor Osinbajo is already on a tour of all the states where floods have taken over most of the communities.
