Otedola seems to have dismissed the various reports going around on social media and mainstream media of him declaring to run for the Governor of Lagos State, as barely 24hours after the news spread, he has taken to his social media page to tease that he is in Paris and staying away from the storm in Lagos.
Femi Otedola who was one of those trending on social media yesterday was said to have accepted the offer from the opposition political party of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to run for Governor in Lagos State, and challenge the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Although he is yet to make any official statement on the whole issue, sources are saying that the whole drama is being caused by some of his closed associates. They are those behind the move and all the talk of him eyeing the seat of Governor, and the only man that can challenge Governor Akinwunmi Ambode or any other aspirant Chief Bola Tinubu decides to bring forward come 2019 general elections and emerge victorious.
Otedola as if to be referring to the situation back home, and giving his opinion, put up this photo on his social media page, with this caption:
His caption of staying away from the ‘storm in Lagos’ has been interpreted by many as him saying he has no interest or what so ever in running for Lagos Governorship election or any political office for that matter, and he is staying away.
The Political atmosphere in Lagos State seem to have been charged since Governor Akinwunmi Ambode announced that he has picked up his nomination form to contest a re-election as Governor of Lagos State, as all hell broke loose, as a few hours after his official declaration. There was some kind of, if you like, a conspiracy theory, as different names as to who was likely to replace Governor Ambode as Governor in 2019, since he has falling out of favour with his political godfather Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and how they are now trying to replace him.
Also, others alleged that all the 57 Council Chairmen in the State have endorsed another candidate, as Bola Tinubu has anointed him to replace Governor Ambode in 2019. In all of these, neither Bola Ahmed Tinubu nor Ambode have come out to confirm or deny the rumour, and looking back at how the politics in Lagos have been played since 1999, I can say that there is no way Tinubu will turn his back against his own candidate, Ambode. All these are just politics and third forces trying to disrupt the political culture of Lagos State…well we are watching…
Ambode who picked his form yesterday in Abuja had made this statement:
In the last three and half years, I have seen visible proof that we can achieve unbelievable things when we all come together. We achieved because you believed. But there is still a lot more to be done.
As I seek to continue with your mandate to steer the affairs of our State, I humbly call on all Lagosians to again give me your support. I ask you to believe again and together, LET’S ACHIEVE MORE.
