Nkiruka Onyejeocha a senior member in the House of Representatives and also a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) decamps to the ruling party of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Hon Nkiruka Onyejeocha, who is a third-time member in the House of Reps, is from Abia State and represents Umunneochi/Isuikwuato federal constituency.
Nikiruka Onyejeocha is said to be nursing a fourth-term ticket to return to the Green Chamber, even after spending 12-years. It is also said that her dumping of PDP for APC came because of the pressure being mounted on her by other opposition members within her party, asking her and other PDP members who have spent over two terms at the National Assembly to return.
Since her election in 2007, Hon. Nkiruka Onyejeocha is yet to taste defeat and has constantly won her elections with or without the support of her party. But since the arrival of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, those that could not defeat her in an election are allegedly doing their best to push her out of the party through the help of the Governor.
It is also alleged that Hon. Nkiruka Onyejeocha sins was that she supported Mr. Uche Ogah against the Governor, so, she has no right asking of a PDP ticket to return to the House of Reps for a fourth-term.
From day one, she has never hidden her love and support for Mr. Uche Ogah who contested against Governor Okezie Ikpeazu in 2015. She has also boycotted all rallies and ceremonies that have to do with the Governor and the PDP, since the taking over of Governor Ikpeazu as Abia State Governor.
Nkiruka Onyejeocha without any doubt and before dumping the party, was one of the loyal members of the PDP, and as the chairman of women in parliament, she has been influential in most of the decisions and activities in the House of Representatives, especially amongst the female members in the House.
This is clearly one ‘big fish’ and valuable political asset the APC has caught in the Green Chamber and from the opposition party of the House, PDP.
Also, one name that has been on the lips of everyone as the man likely to be given the PDP ticket and the man that has the full support of the Governor, is Chief Chris Odinaka Igwe.
Chris Igwe and many other candidates will hope to challenge Nkiruka Onyejeocha for her popularity which she has enjoyed since 2007 come 2019 elections, as the Governor is all set to have all his loyalist on the same page with him.
It is going to be an interesting 2019, as we wait to see how Governors and lawmakers in all the States battle one another for a return ticket.
