Cryril Ramaphosa has congratulated newly elected Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa on his election victory.

The South African President who sent in his best wishes to Mr. Emmerson Mnangagwa, praised him and the people of Zimbabwe for the historic election while also urging them to accept the outcome of the election.

In his statement, he advised  those not satisfied with the outcome to follow the appropriate legal route rather than turn to violent means.

Taking to his social media page, he said:

“Congratulations to His Excellency Emmerson Mnangagwa on his election as President of Zimbabwe. We urge the people of Zimbabwe to accept the outcome of the election, or follow the legal route should they wish to challenge it. We look forward to great working relations with you”

The election in Zimbabwe will be the first for over 30-years without the name and photograph of the ousted and long-time ruler of the country Robert Mugabe not appearing on the ballot papers.

Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa was declared the winner with One would have expected things to go without any hitch, but reports and videos on social media posted online from some cities in Zimbabwe, showed otherwise, as it was marred by violent in most towns.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has since been declared the winner with 50.8% of votes counted narrowly beating Nelson Chamisa who scored 44.3%.
