The Peoples Democratic Party has called any move by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Buhari to impeach Senator Saraki will amount to a “civilianized coup”.
The party raised the alarm in a statement released a few hours ago, saying they have it in good authority that there are plans by the APC and Presidency to shop for a fraudulent interim court order to declare vacant the seat of the President of the Senate, which is currently occupied by Senator Bukola Saraki.
One part of the statement released by the party’s National Publicity Secretary Mr. Kola Ologbondinya reads:
“The failed and dysfunctional All Progressives Congress and Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government are shopping for a fraudulent interim court order to declare vacant, the seats of the President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, following his defection from the APC to the PDP.
Credible information at our disposal reveals that some cabals in the Presidency and the failed APC have perfected a plan to institute a lawsuit to challenge the validity of Saraki’s seat with the sole aim of securing a fraudulent injunction to force him out of office.”
The statement also touched on Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu who has been going back and forth with the Nigerian Police and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on some alleged financial crimes, which the PDP have called a witch-hunt.
The statement which alleges that the Presidency is trying to compromise the judicial officers so that the Deputy Senate President would be denied bail. said:
“Further intelligence available to us shows that once they are able to secure the injunction from a particular compromised judicial officer, they intend to arraign and detain the Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu, on trumped-up charges and ensure he is not granted bail.
While we trust that the Chief Justice of Nigeria will protect the sanctity of our judiciary especially at this trying time in our national history, we call on the institution of the judiciary at all levels to immune itself from being used by enemies of democracy APC.
This desperation by despotic forces to forcefully and illegally take control of the Senate, the highest symbol of our Democratic Order, is nothing short of “civilianized coup” which must be resisted by all.”
