Super Eagles and Wolve goalkeeper Carl Ikeme has today announced his retirement from active football, on his Doctor’s advice.

The goalkeeper who played an active role in Nigeria qualifying for the Russia 2018 FIFA world cup, and his club side Wolves gaining promotion, had his footballing career cut short after he was diagnosed with Leukaemia which he has since been getting treatment for.

Only a few weeks ago, he went through a successful Chemotherapy and was looking forward at returning to playing football again, before this sad news.

Carl who has received tremendous support both in Nigeria and in the United Kingdom, earlier today took to his Instagram to announce that he is quitting football as his Doctors has recommended.
He put out this message thanking his family, his club Wolves, and Nigeria for all their support. He said:

 

“After advice from the doctors I have taken the decision to retire. It’s not a sad day for me but one to look back with fondness and joy for being able to live my dream . I just want to thank everyone at @wolves for there support over the years. We have rode the good and bad times together , an I’m great-full to of been apart of the clubs history. I’m looking forward to catching up with everyone again soon and being back around the club and city !! Thank You!!! ?◼❤

Thank you for the support over the years . My last day as a footballer. But one I am happy and great full for !!! Thanks to everyone to do with @wolves and everyone in football I have met. ?◼❤Carl Ikeme added,
