The Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki in a new twist to his invitation by the Nigerian Police, has released a statement calling the latest invitation as a ploy by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris to use him to stop the defection of Senators and House members from defecting from APC to PDP.
The Senate President who made this allegation on his social media page, said he received the information from a reliable source after the Nigerian Police invited him to come and make a further clarification on his role in the Ofa robbery incident.
Just yesterday, the Nigerian Police through the IG invited the Senate President to come and make a further clarification on his alleged role in the Ofa robbery that saw over 30 killed and several injured, as suspects arrested gave statements implicating him.
Though the Senate President has earlier gave his written statement to the Police, the latest move to invite Senator Saraki is to help their investigation, saying after going through the initial statement of the Senate President there is still need for him to come and explain himself.
But the Senate President has accused the police IG of being behind the whole thing, as they are trying to use him to stop party defection. He said:
“I have been reliably informed that the police invitation was planned by the IG as a ploy to stop an alleged plan by some Senators and House of Representatives members from defecting from the All Progressives Congress (APC).”
