Chelsea’s midfielder Cesc Fabregas has praised the signing of Italian and former Napoli’s head coach Maurizio Sarri’s saying his style of football is one which he believes in and grew up with.
The Spanish midfielder who said this at their pre-season in Australia told Chelsea.com that he is looking forward to working with the Chelsea Boss and winning trophies with him.
Spotting the new Chelsea tracksuit, the Spaniard said:
‘It is a new start for me and for the players,’ he told the reporters. ‘With a new manager we need to prove ourselves and we need to show what we can do and that we deserve to play.
‘I have been playing now for 15 years and when you have a new manager you always try to give your best to make sure he sees your quality and that you want to play. I want to play always and you have to show that every day in training and in every game. For everyone, it is an exciting time and we start from zero and see what we can do.
‘We want to win things and pre-season preparations are very important so starting on Monday, let’s see if we can get a result, we can get the idea of the coach soon and start strong.
‘It is a way of football that I believe in, that I really like and I grew up in this system and the quality of football that he wants to bring to the football club. For the type of player like myself, it can be an advantage.
‘I think we just need to train very hard, be united, be a team and then, however, he decides he wants us to play, we need to figure out for ourselves on the pitch and try to win trophies, which is the main thing. Of course, we want to play well, we want to be attractive but we want to win as well and we have an important season in front of us.’
Fabregas was asked if he has spoken to Eden Hazard and talked to him about staying at Chelsea.
‘I speak to him and I think he is our best player,’ replied our midfielder. ‘I think Chelsea needs to keep their best players. We are a top club, we want to be a top team, we want to win things and for that, you need your best players. Eden is one of them, he knows here that everyone loves him, the fans, the club, the players, and we need him.
‘He knows that, for sure. I don’t know exactly what is in his mind but definitely, from our point of view he is a very important player for us, he is a player who we all love to play with, especially me. It is for the club to decide and for Eden to decide but for us, he is our most important player and we want him to stay.’
It is Fabregas’s first visit to this part of the world, and he told the locals that he is now in a position to agree with a friend of his who lives here and has been giving him good reports.
‘One of the beautiful things football brings is that you travel a lot,’ he added, ‘so I am very excited to be here. We have seven sessions of training and a game as well which is the most important. It is why we are here, the preparation, but if we can have a look around the city as well and meet new people and learn new things, that will be fantastic as well.
‘We are very happy to be here and hopefully, we can give a good performance on Monday and make everyone happy.’
