The result from the just concluded Ekiti State Governorship election as expected has been generating a lot of reactions as the spokesperson of the President Muhammadu Buhari campaign for 2019 Mr. Festus Keyamo who is also a Senior Advocate of Nigeria has cautioned members and supporters of President Buhari not to over celebrate the result, as there is still more work to be done ahead of the 2019 elections.
Mr Keyamo who took to his social media page to express this feeling immediately the Independent National Electoral Commission announced the candidate of the All Progressive Congress Dr. Fayemi as the winner, said, members must learn from the past mistakes of 2014 where APC lost the election to Mr. Ayodele Fayose and that of the Peoples Democratic Party at the presidential election in 2015, as they must not be carried away by today’s result. He said:
“The only propaganda that was used by the PDP in the Ekiti Governorship contest was the scare tactics of ‘Fulani herdsmen’. Now, the result should teach them a lesson that, just like in 2015, these kinds of tactics will not work in 2019. They have truly & honestly run out of ideas.
Since the 2015 general elections, PDP has lost FOUR Guber contests (Kogi, Edo, Ondo & now Ekiti). It won only Bayelsa. The clear conclusion is that PDP is not accustomed to contesting elections without their usual ‘federal might’ & ‘federal purse’. So, welcome to the 2019 contest.
To all PMB supporters: the Ekiti Governorship Election result can’t make us rest on our oars. Let’s remain humble & recall that PDP won Ekiti in 2014 & went to bed, then lost the General Election in 2015. The result can only spur us to work harder. That hard work starts right now.
In 2014, despite blocking APC chieftains from entering Ekiti, using soldiers to rig, writing results, killing the supporters of Fayemi, etc, Dr Kayode Fayemi congratulated Fayose, packed his bags & left Govt House. The world is watching Fayose. Now is the time for him to grow up.
