After almost four years of dumping and campaigning against his former political party, The Peoples Democratic Party, former President Olusegun Obasanjo seem to have returned to the party he once said that it will be ‘over his dead body” to return to, as he was pictured with some members of PDP at his Hilltop residence in Abeokuta Ogun State.
In a statement released online by the spokesperson of the PDP, Mr Kola Ologbondinya, the former president is now joining forces with the PDP to do what they called “rescue Nigeria and Nigerians” from President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressive Congress misrule.

Obasanjo who had earlier vowed never to return to PDP sometimes ago last year, while playing a host to the then caretaker chairman of the PDP, Ahmed Makarfi and some PDP delegate at his Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta Ogun State, he had this to say when asked of any plans to return to PDP:
“I have told the chairman that I was in PDP before but not now. God forbid, when a dog vomits, it will go back to eat its vomit, no.
I have said no partisan politics for me again and not partisan politics, but Nigeria is my passion until death do us part and anything that concerns Nigeria; the good of Nigeria, you will see my involvement.
“So, the chairman has come to greet me and he will be going. You gentlemen and ladies of the press, you can now go, leave the chairman alone.
“I have said that publicly before and I will say it again, for our democracy to thrive and continue to be strong, we need strong party in government and strong party in the opposition.” He said.

But the former President since his friendship with that of President Muhammadu Buhari whom he helped gained power in 2015 over Goodluck Jonathan, has gone sour, just like it did with former President Goodluck Jonathan when he was seeking a second term in 2015, Obasanjo has done a U-turn with this latest move (no permanent friends or enemies in Politics)…lol
Though no official statement yet from Obasanjo himself, but the sudden emergence of a new mega party called Coalition of United Democratic Parties (CUPP) seems the stage is already set for the battle of 2019, which the former President is keen on playing a critical role in.
In the statement released online by PDP on the issue, it reads:
“The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo rose from a two hours meeting and resolved to join forces to rescue our nation from her current misrule from President Buhari and APC.
Led by the party’s National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, the PDP leadership comprising of members of the National Working Committee and leaders of the PDP Board of Trustees (BOT) met with Chief Obasanjo in his Abeokuta Hilltop residence on Saturday.
During the meeting, the leaders agreed that mistakes were made in the past for which the leadership of the PDP tendered apologies to the former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR
The former President, who received the apology with a Yoruba proverb that one does not hand over his child’s waist band to an enemy just because the band did not fit the child’s waist, further expressed his preparedness to fight for the course of nationhood. The statement conclude.
