After captaining his national team Spain to one of their most disastrous world cup outings in recent times, Sergio Ramos who also doubles as Real Madrid captain has issued an apology to the people of Spain, saying the defeat and ouster hurt him as it hurts the fans too.
Spain was knocked out of the world cup by Russia who was the lowest ranked team in the tournament on penalties after a 1-1 draw. The defeat came on penalty shootouts after both teams settled for a 1-1 draw after 120minutes, and Spain took some awful spot kicks ever seen in the world cup.
Both Koke and Aspas who replaced Diego Costa missed their spot kicks as Igor Akinfeev the ‘man of the match’ saved both to give Russia their first quarter-final ticket since the Soviet Union.
Sergio Ramos taking to his social media after the game has this to say.
“Let no one doubt that we will recover and we will try again and again and again.
Some will leave and others will come but we will all always defend this shirt with passion and respect.
In defeats is when I feel most proud of being Spanish.
