Mainz and Super Eagles of Nigeria defender, Leon Balogun has confirmed his move from the German Bundesliga to the world most lucrative and popular league, the English Premier League. The defender made this known in a lengthy and heartfelt farewell message to Mainz fans, after spending three solid years at the club.
Balogun whose footballing career skyrocketed since joining the German side said he will never forget, as the club has done so much to him that they have become family during his stay at the club.
The defender that is giving his country Nigeria so much hope going to the Russian 2018 World Cup, will be looking to impress his new club Brighton, as he prepares for the FIFA Mundial. He was even nicknamed oyibo-wall alongside his counterpart Ekong who also plies his trade in the German league.
Taking to his social media page, the German-born Nigerian International, put up some fine moments with fans and teammates and even used the opportunity to take a dig at German giant Bayern Munich. He said:
Hello dear Meenzer!
If someone told me 3 years ago that Mainz might be the reason for me to seriously consider giving up a dream, I would probably have called this person crazy.
In the end, I decided to fulfill this dream and change to the Premier League – which I owe to the wonderful, last 3 years in Mainz. That’s why I want to say thank you to Mainz 05. All coaches, teammates, staff members, supervisors, and co-workers who accompanied me during this time. And of course all the fans and every single soul that makes this club so special.
For 3 great years, in which I was received and accepted by day 1 super. In which I could evolve as a player and as a person because of all the great people inside and outside the club. For the friends I won. For my first and only Bundesligator # DankeDürDenAssistBrosi ?, for participating in the Europa League. For the good and the less good times when you fans unconditionally supported us, and we grew together as a family even closer. How we annoyed so many great names, or have saved the league 17/18 in Dortmund and the year before against concord at home … but especially how we have the Bayern in Munich, the leather pants undressed, I will never forget! #DecaleScale ?
