The Deputy Senate President Senator Ike Ekweremadu has confirmed the recovery and returned of the Senate Mace by the Nigerian Police. The Deputy Senate President who was briefing his colleagues on the development, thanked them for their courage and manner in which they conducted themselves during the surprised invasion, as he urged them not to be disturbed in any way, as the Senate is here to stay and no amount of threats will stop them from carrying out their constitutional role.
Senator Ekweremadu who was the presided over plenary when the attack took place, read out the address from Senate President Saraki who had earlier condemned the act and promised to look into it when he comes back, praised them for their job. The Deputy Senate President said:
On behalf of the President of the Senate, @bukolasaraki, I want to express my deep appreciation, to you, my colleagues for your understanding and maturity in the
face of flagrant provocation. You conducted yourselves as statesmen and patriots. I am proud of you & salute your patriotism. I want to specially appreciate, the Leadership of the @HouseNGR , the management of the National Assembly, and especially our Chamber Staff for their gallantry ,we appreciate all Nigerians, the media, the civil society,
the political parties and the International community for the outpouring of solidarity and concern.
Let me therefore confirm to you, my Distinguished Colleagues and all Nigerians, that the Mace has been recovered and returned by the police.
