PHOTO: Archbishop Justin Welby Backs President Buhari For Second Term

The Archbishop of Canterbury Mr Welby has given his backing and support to President Buhari’s decision to contest for a second term as President in the 2019 general elections. The Archbishop who paid a courtesy visit to the President at the Nigerian House in London, praised the work of the president while also saying the church is backing and praying for the president but are neutral in the Nigerian political affairs. While presenting a book to the President, the Archbishop said:

You have my best wishes on your recent decision. I read your declaration speech. We are neutral as a church, but we will pray for you. Great statesmen are those who run for the good of their country. We will be praying for you.

The President while returning the kind gesture, took to his social media page to thank the Archbishop and his people, saying:

I received a visit from the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby and the Secretary General Worldwide of Anglican Communion, and former Archbishop of Kaduna, Josiah Idowu-Fearon. Our High Commissioner to the UK, Rtd Justice George Oguntade was also present.
