The Presidency through the Ministers of Information and Defence have confirmed the release of kidnapped Dapchi School Girls by Boko Haram Militants. Both Ministers of Information and Culture, Mr Lai Mohammed and Minister of Defence Haliru Mohammed Bello both briefed the press ahead of the FEC Meeting on the released Dapchi girls and promise to release a full Press Statement on the development after the Federal Executive Council Meeting today.
The short statement released by the Presidency on their twitter handle reads:
The released Girls are in Dapchi and being documented; Situation is developing; release is outcome of “backchannel” negotiations; no ransoms were paid.Details about the released Dapchi girls will be made available in due course. The girls are now in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), in Dapchi. The DSS will be briefing the President and the nation in the course of the day.
