Nigerians have taken to social media to condemn President Muhammadu Buhari-led government, over the abduction of a personal aide to Governor Ganduje of Kano State, Tanko-Yakasai. The topic FreeDawisu is one of the trending topics on the Nigerian Twitter street on Saturday, after his abduction was made public by family members on social media.
Governor Ganduje’s aide, Yakasai was abducted by Security operatives on Friday in Kano and taken to Abuja over his anti-Buhari tweet on Friday.
He had called for the resignation of the President over the security challenges in the country. He also called out his political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) for failing to keep up with its campaign promises to Nigerians, especially on the issue of security.
According to reports, Yakasai was taken into custody shortly after his Tweet, where he made a post condemning Friday’s abduction of 300 Zamfara schoolgirls.
His arrest was not immediately disclosed, prompting friends to take to social media to raise concerns about his whereabouts on Saturday morning, using FreeDawisu.
He was said to have been arrested while returning from the mosque on Friday afternoon.
Here are some of the reactions by Nigerians using the #FreeDawisu:
@renoomokri: How can you arrest @Dawisu for criticising clueless and inept @MBuhari, but you leave Sheikh Gumi, who told Bandits and killer herdsmen that it is Christian soldiers who kill Muslims, thereby putting Christian lives at risk. Buhari must #FreeDawisu
JJ. Omojuwa@Omojuwa: Note that @dawisu was picked at home, he had left home casually in jellabiya. They picked him on the road, which means they had tracked his movement by tracking his phone. One day, the DSS will deploy this technology against criminals & terrorists #FreeDawisu
Gimba Kakanda@gimbakakanda:
The resources that ought to be disbursed for tackling burning national issues like banditry has unfortunately been wasted in abducting @dawisu in Kano and transporting him to Abuja. For what, I ask? What’s this madness for God’s sake? To intimidate government critics? #FreeDawisu
@Omojuwa: Citizen @Dawisucriticised his own party & was disappeared & we thought he had been killed or kidnapped. That reminds me of Hitler, not justice. That’s the game under fascism, not democracy. If you support this, keep it going. You will live long to enjoy it too #FreeDawisu !!!
