English Premier League side, Arsenal have announced the sacking of their manager, Unai Emery and his entire coaching team, after a poor run of results, and in just 18 months of being in charge of the London club. The club said the decision to sack their head coach was “taken due to results and performances not being at the level required”.
The announcement comes after their shocking defeat at Thursday’s Europa League Cup game where they lost 1-2 at home against Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Spaniard has failed to secure a win in his last seven games in all competition, and last night, playing in a half-empty stadium, and then losing, meant he was going to lose his job at the Emirate.
Unai Emery before taking over from Arsene Wenger in May 2018, had previously managed Paris St-Germain to the French league title and won three Europa Leagues with Sevilla. He is now the third manage getting the sacking in the English top-flight this season, after Javi Gracia and Mauricio Pochettino departed Watford and Tottenham respectively.
The London club in a short statement put out on Friday 29th November 2019, had this to say about the sacking of Unai Emery:
“We announce today that the decision has been taken to part company with our head coach, Unai Emery and his coaching team,” the club said in their statement.
#unaiemery is to be replaced temporarily by an assistant and former Arsenal midfielder Freddie Ljungberg.
