Former Spurs coach, Mauricio Pochettino has finally broken his long silence about his sacking by Tottenham and being replaced by Jose Mourinho.
The Argentine who was sacked after a poor run of results, even with his outstanding results last season where he took Spurs to the Champions League final, released a statement on Thursday speaking about the sacking.
In a statement released by the League Managers Association, Mauricio Pochettino said:
‘I would like to thank Joe Lewis and Daniel Levy for giving me the opportunity to be part of Tottenham Hotspur’s history. ‘I would like to thank also everyone I met at Tottenham, all the club staff and the football players during these five and a half years. ‘Finally, I would like to give a special mention to the fans who make this club so great with their fantastic support.
‘I gave the best of me to accomplish the objectives I was asked for in our first meeting. There were equally tough challenges as an exciting success. ‘Best wishes for the future, I am sure we will cross paths again.’
Although Mauricio Pochettino did not mention his next destination, or if he is already speaking to other teams, as he has already been linked to some clubs, hot amongst them being Manchester United and Arsenal, but there rumour that it will not be long now before he announced his next destination as a manager.
The club in their statement released on Tuesday 19th November 2019 had said this about the sacking of the Argentine:
“We were extremely reluctant to make this change,” said Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.
“It is not a decision the board has taken lightly, nor in haste. Regrettably, domestic results at the end of last season and beginning of this season have been extremely disappointing.
“It falls on the board to make the difficult decisions – this one made more so given the many memorable moments we have had with Mauricio and his coaching staff – but we do so in the club’s best interests”, the club said.
The former Southampton coach who was appointed in May 2014 and during his time at the club, helped the club to reach the Champions League final, top-four finish in several occasions and beautiful style of football, but unfortunately, did not win any silverware during his five years at the club.
