Popular Zimbabwean celebrity and talk show host on Ebony-live TV here in Nigeria, Vimbai Mutinhiri is calling on Africans especially women to put aside all the talk on docuseries of “Surviving R Kelly”, and focus on the real problem staring us all in our faces which she said is “Surviving Powerful African Men”.
Vimbai who is never shy to express herself and share what she thinks about the happenings in African society, said she still does not understand what “Our” problems are; if it is pure poverty or just greed.
She said:
“I’m still trying to figure out whether our problem is poverty or greed. I’m simultaneously angry and heartbroken at the things my generation is ready to endure to make it in life.”
Speaking about her home country Zimbabwe, and how drugs have taken over the country, and how youths are now becoming addicted to the use of codeine, she said:
“It is estimated that over half of the young population of Zimbabwe are addicted to drugs (codeine mainly) and when you speak to them, most of them will tell you it’s because they are idle and want to take away the pain of their reality”
Vimbai bringing it back to the issue of “Surviving Power African men”, she said while it is okay to watch and condemn R Kelly who is far away in America, Africans especially women are forgetting that there is an actual monster, bigger and worse than R Kelly right here in Africa.
She said young girls are falling victim on a daily to these “Powerful African Men”, who are mostly Politicians.
Narrating an incident she experienced herself, Vimbai said:
“I saw a group of young girls scramble and stampede to be first to meet a politician the other day. For the first time, I couldn’t write these girls off as “loose”. she said.
Stating further, she said:
“I was angry at the people who create these environments and enable this endless cycle by convincing themselves that because they are offering money or gifts they are helping these young girls”.
She ended her post by saying:
“Let’s put Surviving R Kelly aside, we need to hear about Surviving Powerful African Men”
