Confederation of African Football (CAF) has a few hours ago announced that Egypt will stage the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The announcement came earlier on Tuesday after Cameroon were stripped of hosting rights in November over preparation delays and security concerns.

Cameroon has faced persistent attacks by Boko Haram jihadists in the north and a conflict between the army and separatists in the two English-speaking regions in the west.

South Africa was also tipped to host, as the country has much of the necessary infrastructure after hosting the 2010 World Cup and the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

Egypt last hosted it in 2006 and have the right infrastructure and although they only expressed their interest in hosting the tournament last December, after Morocco pulled out in the middle of the same month, CAF has given them the go-ahead to be the host after an executive meeting.

This year’s competition will run from June 15 to July 13 2019.
