The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly is alleged to be under siege, as both thugs and security agencies are said to be preventing members of the State Assembly from gaining access to the Assembly complex.
According to a statement released a few hours ago by the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Kola Ologbondiya, said the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly has been invaded by thugs allegedly backed by the Nigerian Police. He said:
“The premises of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has been invaded by thugs with the full backing Nigerian Police
The House is on a break but All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Muhammadu Buhari goons are working for 3 members whose seat were declared vacant by the court.
Details shortly…”
This is not surprising, as the political tension in Akwa Ibom has been on the high side ever since the former Governor and now one of the Senators from the State, Senator Godswill Akpabio decamped to the opposition party of the All Progressives Congress (APC). His movement has brought alot of political uncertainty to alot of Politicians in the State, who hitherto were fine and confident of their political future in PDP and state in general.
…Even the incumbent Governor, Emmanuel Udom is not 100% certain he will get an easy ride in the forthcoming elections, as Senator Akpabio’s influence in Akwa Ibom (the State is also being referred to as Akpabio’s State by some political watchers) could see a lot of changes come 2019…whatever changes, we cannot wait for the political battle in the State come 2019…
…no comments yet from the APC in Akwa Ibom as regarding the alleged siege on the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, as we await full details of the alleged incident, which seems to have been dragging for over three days now…We shall bring you more details as we get them…
