Olusegun Obasanjo has backed the Presidential ambition of his former Vice, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, as the 2019 general elections draw closer.

The former President Olusegun Obasanjo who a few hours ago, received a delegation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by the National Chairman Uche Secondus and some top members of the party in Abeokuta on Thursday afternoon, told the gathering that he is more than willing to work with Chief Atiku Abubakar, as he believes the PDP Presidential candidate has what it takes to take Nigeria out of her current challenges.

Chief Olusegun Obasanjo said this after holding a closed-door meeting with the PDP delegates who visited him at his residence in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

Those that were in Abeokuta with Atiku were: National Chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus; Olabode George; former Governor of Osun State, Olagunsoye Oyinlola and former Governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, Bishop Oyedepo.

Chief Olusegun Obasanjo who has taken a swipe at the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, said he was convinced that Atiku, who was the vice president during his tenure, has the capacity to perform better than the present administration.

He, therefore, asked the PDP’s flagbearer to uphold the constitution of the nation if elected as the president next year. Speaking further, he called for a credible and fair exercise in 2019.

The former President has once alleged to have said Atiku Abubakar can never rule Nigeria, while also asking the former Vice President to tell Nigerians why he has refused to visit the United States of America.

Both Obasanjo and Atiku have been known for some time now, not to be Politically on the same page, but if history has thought us anything, since Obasanjo left office as President, whoever he endorses ends up becoming the President of the country the following year.

From 2007, when he brought in the late Musa Yar’Adua, and then Goodluck Jonathan, whom he later dumped for the opposition, to which Buhari belongs to, and now Atiku Abubakar.
Some might say he had no hand in President Buhari becoming Nigeria’s President in 2015, but his utterances and condemnation of Jonathan’s administration, sure gave voters and the known ‘Obasanjo boys’ in the North the nod to jump ship and support Buhari, against Jonathan.

…but what will now happen now that he has publicly endorsed Atiku?
