Johnny Depp can smile again.
The Oscar-nominated actor, 61, appeared to have undergone major dental work in a new video circulating on Instagram, depicting his recent trip to a Bahamian bar.
In a clip uploaded to Instagram Thursday, a bartender by the name of Rap Rap Zoilo, under the handle @killerbartender, Johnny Depp was seen smiling, sporting a much healthier set of teeth than past outings which drew scrutiny from fans.
In the clip, Rap Rap Zoilo shared a friendly exchange he had with the actor at Lorraine’s Cafe in the Exuma district of the Bahamas.
The bartender captioned the post, ‘jacksparrow meets the killerbartender of exuma bahamas … once in a lifetime moments with mr jonhny Depp.’
The Pirates of the Caribbean actor in the clip acknowledged a painting of his character Captain Jack Sparrow, greeted people in the establishment, and stepped behind the bar to mix a drink with the bartender.
In the adjacent comment thread in one of the posts, fans of the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory actor complimented his rejuvenated appearance after the apparent dental work he underwent.
‘He looks so happy! And healthy and LOOK he got his teeth fixed!!!!!’ one fan said.
Another said, ‘Now there will be no one who can say anything bad about @johnnydepp’s teeth … he has a beautiful mouth, a very healthy appearance.’
One fan said, ‘The pirate teeth are gone … pearly whites look beautiful’ while another said, ‘Johnny Depp has new teeth!’
Said one user: ‘Yes, someone did some wonderful work on his teeth. That smile is even more gorgeous!! But it was before, in my eyes. I love his heart.
‘I only worried that he might lose some teeth before, but even if he lost them all, I would still love him the same!!’
Depp’s dental hygiene came under scrutiny last year at the May 2023 Cannes Film Festival, where he was pictured on the red carpet in promotion of his film Jeanne du Barry.
Johnny Depp was pictured smiling, attracting attention amid a number of oral imperfections, including teeth that did not match in color and appeared to have damage, with fans describing his teeth as ‘rotting.’
At the time one X/Twitter user said, ‘Johnny Depp’s teeth are literally ROTTING,’ Page Six reported, while another said that it appeared as if ‘someone grabbed his teeth and painted them black.’
Johnny Depp has past spoken about his dental health nearly three decades back, telling Premiere magazine in 1995 that he had ‘loads of cavities’ by the age of 31.
‘I had a root canal done eight years ago that’s unfinished. It’s like a rotten little stub,’ he said at the time. ‘When I see people with perfect teeth, it drives me up the wall. I’d rather swallow a tick than have that!’
The report noted at the time that Johnny Depp had a penchant for smoking cigarettes and drinking merlot wine, which could impact the appearance of his teeth.
