Nigerian Falconets crashed out of the ongoing FIFA U20 world cup France, after losing 2-1 to Spain in the Quarterfinals on Thursday.
The Spanish girls from the kickoff, took the game to the Nigerian Falconets, as they took the lead as early as in the 13-minutes, through Aitana Bonmat, who capitalized on the poor defense and lack of coordination from the Falconets at the back to give Spain an early lead.
The Falconets showed no improvement in the defense from previous games and the Spanish girls forced some defensive errors from the Nigerians, but for the good goalkeeping from Nnadozie it would have been worse for the Falconets every early in the game.
The Spanish girls continued their pressing for the second goal, which came in the extra time of the first half, as Patricia Guijarro scored what will eventually be the winning goal, to give the Spanish side a comfortable lead going into the second half.
The Nigerian girls came out in the second half with more determination, as they pulled one goal back in the 57-minutes through Peace Ehif, who slotted home a deflected shot from striker Rasheedat.
The coach Dajuma lead team, who over the competition have always come from behind to pick a win or a draw, continued their pressing but knowing full well what the Falconets can do if given the chance, the Spanish team held on for a 2-1 victory to be heading to the semi-finals for the first time in their history of female football.
The Christopher Danjuma led team will now be heading home, and proud of their fight throughout the competition, while looking to build the team for future competition.
The Nigerian girls were in a group with female football powerhouse, as they were grouped with the likes of Germany, China, and Haiti. They fell to Germany in their group opening game, beat Haiti and drew with China to pick up a quarterfinals ticket.
The likes of Rasheedat and goalkeeper Nnadozie and a few others, have a future in the senior team of the Super Falcons, as they will be hoping to progress to the Super Falcons.
