German Super Star, Angelique Kerber once again stunned Serena Williams 6-3,6-3 in the just concluded Wimbledon female finals, to win her first ever Wimbledon title. The German who knew what she was going to face from her previous experience playing against her, wasted no time as she took the game to former world number one.
Kerber with the outstanding display, ended the hope of Serena Williams winning her record 24th Grand Slam title, after returning to the court a few months after giving birth to her daughter Olympia.
Serena who was never at her best like previous games going to the finals, though emotional, said she was happy she got to the finals and thanked Kerber for her win saying:
“Thank you to my box, and my family and friends. Without you, I wouldn’t be here so thank you.”
“Angelique’s an incredible person and a great friend.”
“It was such an amazing tournament for me. I was really happy to get this far. It’s obviously disappointing but I have so much to look forward to.
“I’m just me. For all the mums out there I tried to do it for all of you. Angelique played out of her mind, and I look forward to being back.
On her part, Kerber said:
