Police Move To Identify And Sanction Officer In Viral Video Extorting Motorists In Anambra

Authorities of the Anambra State Police Command have reacted to a viral social media video of Police extortion at the popular 3-3 area of Onitsha in Anambra State, stating that the officer in the video will be identified, and appropriate sanctions meted out accordingly.

The Anambra State Police Command in a statement released on Saturday 27th May 2023, by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu stated that the issue of the viral social media video, where an officer was shown on tape extorting motorists plying the popular 3-3 road in Onitsha, would be investigated.

DSP Ikenga Tochukwu confirming the video, said that it has been forwared to DPO in that area, to identify the officer for internal sanction within the Police Act.

Our attention has been drawn to a trending video of a policeman seen collecting money from motorists plying a road suspected to be within 3 3 areas in Onitsha.

The Command wishes to describe this behaviour as unprofessional as he was seen instead of conducting a proper screening on vehicles at the checkpoint but was doing otherwise. The video has been sent to the DPO in the area to identify the officer for internal sanction within the police act, please,” he said.
