President Muhammadu Buhari has charged the nation’s security and intelligence agencies to expedite efforts towards the recovery of the 200 kidnapped children from an Islamic school in Niger State.
The President, who received a briefing on the latest incident of school kidnapping, condemned as unfortunate, the kidnapping of children from schools and urged all the agencies involved in the rescue operation to do their utmost in securing their immediate release.
He also directed that the concerned government agencies to extend possible support to the families of the kidnapped children.
The move by the President comes after the news of the 200 kidnapped children of an Islamiyya school at Tegina in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State on Sunday.
The abductors had stormed the school on Sunday afternoon.
A resident of the area Zayyad Mohammed who confirmed the incident, said the Islamiyya school is not the usual Sangaya boarding Islamic citadel, but an unconventional one where parents send their children on a daily basis for the purpose of acquiring Islamic education.
The Police Spokesman, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, who also confirmed the incident, said the armed bandits boarded motorcycles in their numbers invaded Tegina town, Rafi LGA shooting indiscriminately.
DSP Abiodun said operatives are yet to ascertain how many children were abducted from the Salihu Tanko Islamic school.
