Ranching: We Are Not Provide Land For Free -Makinde

The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde has denied claims that the state is giving free land to private investors for ranching, saying that since ranching is a private business, the state would treat it as such. He said his administration will not be providing land for free to private investors who are interested in ranching in the State.

Governor Seyi Makinde in a statement released on Wednesday 3rd March 2021, on his official Twitter handle, also said that his government would implement plans that will benefit the state in the National Livestock Transformation Plan. He said:

My attention has been drawn to this tweet regarding the implementation of the National Livestock Transformation Plan during the joint security meeting, yesterday. For the avoidance of doubt, when I said we would implement the plan, I didn’t mean a wholesale implementation.

We will be taking aspects that are beneficial for our state. As I have stated on several occasions, our position in Oyo State is that ranching is a private business and should be carried out as such. Our admin won’t be providing land for free to private investors for ranching,” he said.

This statement from Governor Makinde is coming after his security meeting with his Kwara State counterpart, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, where he agreed to implement the National Livestock Transformation Plan which is already being implemented in Kwara State in order to further collaborate with the sister state on economy and security.

The fears being expressed by some citizens of Oyo state, comes after the ugly clash between Hausas and the Yorubas in some parts of the State, over alleged killer herdsmen.

The security meeting between the two states, which held on Tuesday, had traditional rulers and security commanders from both states where they agreed to share intelligence while security agencies do joint patrols to curb criminal activities.
