The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has reported a total of 643 new cases of the dreaded coronavirus in Nigeria. This latest report which also saw 6 deaths, was reported on Monday 8th February 2021.
The NCDC in their daily update on the coronavirus spread and deaths across the 36 states of the Federation, including the Federal Capital Territory, stated on their official social media handle that the 643 new cases recorded on Monday, were data from 19 states. The distribution of these 643 new cases, shows the following across the 19 states

Lagos (86),
Rivers (55),
Edo (54),
Akwa Ibom (53),
Adamawa (52),
Plateau (45),
Kaduna (41),
FCT (34),
Kwara (27),
Benue (20),
Kano (19),
Delta (18),
Nasarawa (16),
Niger (15),
Bayelsa (11),
Borno (5),
Bauchi (2), and
Sokoto (2)
NCDC in their report, stated that discharges on Monday, include 744 community recoveries in Lagos State, 100 in Rivers State, 78 in Plateau State, 72 in Kaduna State and 2 in Benue State managed in line with guidelines.
Till date, 140,391 cases have been confirmed, 114,635 cases have been discharged and 1,673 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The Director-General of NCDC, who gave updates on genomic surveillance activities in response to #COVID19 in the country, said: “There’s the likelihood of detecting more variants of concern as we scale our sequencing. 6 more samples with B.1.1.7 detected & none yet with B.1.351 variant, the dominant strain in S. Africa”
“We continue to support every state, both in response to #COVID19 and to prepare for future outbreaks,” he said.
He also added that:
“The #COVID19 pandemic is not yet over, and we must continue to protect ourselves and our country. Please continue to avoid large gatherings, wear a face mask, wash your hands regularly and always maintain physical distancing”
