Alleged Certificate Forgery: Gov. Obaseki Celebrates Court Judgment

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state, has welcomed Saturday’s judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja, after his alleged certificate forgery case filed against him by the All Progressives Congress (APC) against him was dismissed.

Governor Obaseki in a statement on Saturday 9th January 2021, while reacting to the verdict of the Federal High Court, said the judgment delivered by Honourable Justice Ahmed Mohammed on the allegation of certificate forgery is well-received and a victory for the rule of law.

The suit was a most needless attempt by desperate individuals trying to undo the will of the people through the backdoor but we are happy today that justice and truth have prevailed.

My profound gratitude goes to the judiciary who have stood indefatigably for truth and justice; the President of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari; my party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); our party leaders and members; my teeming supporters; the good people of Edo State and all Nigerians,” he added.

Honourable Justice Ahmed Mohammed had thrown out the certificate forgery case against Obaseki, brought by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and one of its members, Edobor Williams.

In the judgment on Saturday 9th January 2021, the Court held that the plaintiffs failed to prove their claim that Obaseki forged the academic certificates that he submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before the last governorship election in the state.

The judge found as lazy, the attitude of the plaintiffs, who did no make any efforts to cross-check from the University of Ibadan (UI) and the West African Examination Council (WAEC), the two institutions that issued the alleged certificates they claimed Obaseki forged.
