Doja Cat has issued an apology saying she is sorry for offending anyone after a chat room video of her using the N-word leaked. In her apology note a few hours ago, she let fans know that she is actually a black woman, and would not use the N-word to deliberately hurt or offend anyone or race.
Doja Cat taking to her Instagram on Sunday issued an apology where she said:
“I want to address what’s been happening on Twitter. I’ve used public chat rooms since I was a child. I shouldn’t have been on some of those chat room sits, but I personally have never been involved in any racist conversations. I’m sorry to everyone that I offended.”
She added, “I’m a black woman. Half of my family is black from South Africa and I’m very proud of where I come from. As for the old song that’s resurfaced, it was in no way tied to anything outside of my own personal experience. It was written in response to people who often used that term to hurt me.”
Doja Cat continued, “I made an attempt to flip its meaning, but recognize that it was a bad decision to use the term in my music. I understand my influence and impact and I’m taking this all very seriously. I love you all and I’m sorry for upsetting or hurting any of you. That’s not my character, and I’m determined to show that to everybody moving forward. Thank you.”
Earlier this week, videos of Doja in chat rooms starting to leak online. In one clip, Doja is talking to a bunch of people being racist and smiling as the N-word is hurled around.
The all-over-the-place apology didn’t sit well with former fans who are still calling for her to be canceled. One fan wrote, “Cackling at how Doja Cat has NEVER claimed South Africa except for when she’s facing backlash for being a racist and has to prove she’s BLACK black. Sksksksk.”
Another said, “#Dojacat going back to the racist chatrooms after making her apology on instagram #DojaIsOverParty #dojacatcancelled.”
