Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje says wearing facemasks are now compulsory and the penalty could include jail time.

Ganduje stated the compulsory use of face mask while addressing journalists on Sunday in Kano on the coronavirus situation in the state.

Kano state has the 2nd highest number of coronavirus infection in the country, and its figure continues to rise.

The Governor said he has directed security agencies to enforce the compulsory

wearing of the facemasks while lamenting that some residents have continued to violate the social distancing order.

Meetings have been held with security chiefs to fashion out how to ensure that people wear face masks and observe social distancing, he added.

Meanwhile, the Coordinator, Kano State Government Task Force on COVID:19, Dr Tijjani Hussaiń said more than 47 health workers in the state were confirmed to be infected by the Coronavirus since it came to Kano.

The Coordinator stated this during a press briefing by the task force in Kano.

Kano has 576 confirmed cases, 32 have so far been discharged.
