The President of the United States of America, President Donald Trump has on Sunday ordered the lowering of the Flags to half-staff for Five Days, starting from Sunday through Thursday, to mourn the victims of US shootings.
The President who had earlier released some tweets condemning the shootings that have happened across some cities in the US, especially that of El Paso Texas, took to his tweeter to mourn the victims saying:
“God bless the people of El Paso, Texas. God bless the people of Dayton, Ohio.
Today, I authorized the lowering of the flags to half-staff at all Federal Government buildings in honour of the victims of the tragedies in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio.
The flags at the White House will be lowered today through Thursday, August 8. Melania and I are praying for all those impacted by this unspeakable act of evil!” he said.
The Saturday shooting at a Walmart in Texas, saw at least 20 people killed and dozens more injured on Saturday morning in a massacre at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas.
According to reports. the store was packed with back-to-school shoppers, making it one of the deadliest mass shootings in U.S. history, officials said. The wounded ranged in age from a 2-year-old child to an 82-year-old victim.
The suspect was identified as Patrick Crusius, 21, of Allen, Texas. He was “taken into custody without incident” and without any law enforcement officers firing their weapons, according to El Paso Police Department Sgt. Robert Gomez.
He later told investigators he wanted to shoot as many Mexicans as possible. Officials said an assault-style rifle, similar to an AK-47, was secured at the scene along with several magazines.
At a news conference on Saturday night, El Paso police chief, Greg Allen, said that 20 people had died and 26 more had been injured.
Allen said authorities are examining what he called a “manifesto” that they believe was written by the shooter and shows a possible “nexus” to a hate crime.
