Osun-rerun: PDP must go to court- Senator Dino

Senator Dino Melaye has called on the Peoples Democratic Party to go to court over the outcome of the Osun State Governorship election which results were announced a few hours ago on Sunday.

Senator Dino Melaye who was reacting to the decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare the Osun State Governorship election inconclusive due to the fact that the margin between the winner of the election and the canceled votes was a slim one and so it was not possible to declare any of the parties winners.

Senator Dino Melaye while speaking on the issue and backing his own party the PDP, said:

“INEC now a Tribunal, it is the responsibility of the tribunal to determine any voted already counted.

The provision of the 2015 electoral guideline relied upon by INEC is only applicable to where elections did not hold or where card reader fails. PDP should go to court Shikena!!”

Senator Dino Melaye just like his party PDP rejected the decision of the electoral umpire, while also asking for the PDP to declare their candidate Senator Adeleke the winner of the election.

APC on their part, have cited a precedent case where such a decision was made, and it was in the case of Kogi state governorship election. They said:

There was also a supplementary election in Kogi state… The Supplementary Election was conducted on 5 December 2015 in 91 polling units across 18 local government areas in Kogi state.

According to the results declared by Mr. Kucha, the APC had 6,885 votes in the supplementary election, bringing the total votes it received to 247,752, having polled 240,857 in the November 21 election.

The second runner-up, the Peoples Democratic Party, and its candidate, Captain Idris Wada, the incumbent governor, scored 5,363 in the supplementary election. Thus, PDP polled a total of 204, 877 votes, having had 199,514 at the November 21 election.
