Kim Kardashian’s oldest daughter North West made her debut on Instagram under her own name on Friday.
Kim Kardashian’s daughter North West who is still a 12-year-old nepobaby shared a stylishly blurry photo of herself to kick off the new account.
Although the account’s bio insists that the ‘account [is] managed by parents,’ North’s father Kanye West, 48, has previously expressed outrage publicly about her social media activity under the supervision of her 45-year-old mother.
In a 2022 clip that began making the rounds online again in October, Kanye said he had told Kim their children should not be on social media, and he said he was ‘not allowing my daughter to be used by TikTok.’
In her debut post, North was snapped while wearing a black ‘Balenciaga 01’ short-sleeve jersey, along with a black ribbed miniskirt.
She completed her outfit with multiple necklaces and bracelets, as well as tall black boots with silver chains wrapped around her legs.
North flashed dual peace signs and looked off to the side with a blank expression in the picture, which had a ghostly doubling effect as if it was snapped while the camera was in motion.
‘first post,’ she captioned it matter-of-factly.
Although her account says it is supervised by her parents, it’s unclear how much influence her father plans to have over the content she shares, as he has previously been far more opposed to his children being on social media than Kim has.
The conflict resurfaced in October, after North shocked her fans when she posted videos to the joint account she and her mother share on TikTok in which she wore fake face tattoos, a nose piercing and grillz.
She added to the edgy look with long blue braids and blue contact lenses, along with a disturbing grill that blacked out her teeth.
North also added what turned out to be a faux nose ring and fake ink on her face, including a heart under one eye and what looked like a signature under the other.
Commenters were split, with some accepting that North’s confrontational appearance was little more than a Halloween costume, while others said it was still inappropriate for her to be posing with fake facial tattoos and piercings.
Around that time, a video of Kanye complaining about his children on social media that he originally filmed in March 2022 resurfaced.
‘Hey everybody, I just got off the phone with Kim and I told her to stop antagonizing me with this TikTok thing,’ the rapper said in the clip.
‘I said, “Never again.” I am her father,’ Kanye declared. ‘I know y’all don’t respect fathers and the idea of family and the media tries to promote something… but I said, “I am not allowing my daughter to be used by TikTok.”‘
The disgraced rapper was originally set off by a post from North and Kim’s joint TikTok account in which North — then eight — lip-synced to Machine Gun Kelly’s song Emo Girl while wearing black lipstick and smudged black eye shadow.
One month earlier, Kanye claimed on Instagram that his daughter was ‘being put on TikTok against his will.’
Hours after his video went live, Kim hit back on her own Instagram.
She slammed her ex-husband’s ‘constant attacks’ on her and accused him of causing their family ‘pain’ in a lengthy statement in which she referred to herself as the ‘main caregiver.’
Kim wrote on her Instagram Stories: ‘Kanye’s constant attacks on me in interviews and on social media is actually more hurtful than any TikTok North might create.
‘As the parent who is the main provider and caregiver for our children, I am doing my best to protect our daughter while also allowing her to express her creativity in the medium that she wishes with adult supervision — because it brings her happiness,’ she wrote.
The 2022 clip of West has received over five million views on X (formerly Twitter) after it was reshared in October amid North’s latest controversial TikTok post, and it has since sparked a heated debate.
Some commenters slammed West in the replies and pointed to his relationship with his wife Bianca Censori, who often makes headlines for her nearly nude looks.
‘Brainwashing someone’s daughter, Bianca Censori, to walk naked in the streets while complaining about your own daughter is crazy and hypocritical,’ one person wrote.
‘Then lead by example by putting some clothes on your wife, Ye,’ another added.
‘Hard to appreciate his concern when he parades his wife in public in nude. Does he think his daughter does not see that?’ asked someone else.
‘Kanye West’s rant about North West’s TikTok antics is peak hypocrisy, especially when his own fashion choices make her look tame,’ read a fourth tweet.
A fifth said, ‘The man who makes his wife walk around naked is worried about his child’s Halloween costume? Is he scared someone will treat her like he treats his wife?’
Others, however, agreed with him.
‘Kanye was right and everyone called him crazy for it. He warned that fame and social media would shape his daughter into what the world wanted, not who she truly is,’ one person replied.
‘Now she is trending for the same things he tried to protect her from. This is not about blue hair or grills, it is about a culture that rewards attention over identity.
‘Kanye was not trying to control her, he was trying to shield her from the digital machine that profits off lost innocence. Parents laughed then. They should not be laughing now.’
‘The internet moves in circles, and now it’s Kanye’s turn to look like the prophet everyone ignored. People dragged him years ago for speaking about his daughter’s exposure online, now the same crowd is pretending to be shocked,’ agreed another.
‘This man [is] trying preserve his daughter innocence as he should,’ said someone else.
