Leonardo DiCaprio new film One Battle After Another is getting major Oscar buzz, and his family couldn’t be prouder, Daily Mail reports.
According to the report by Daily Mail, the 51-year-old actor’s stepmom, Peggy Ann Farrar, and dad, George DiCaprio, were on hand to celebrate the film with their superstar son at a bash in Los Angeles on December 4.
Leonardo DiCaprio was all smiles as he posed for cameras with the elder DiCaprio and Farrar, who embraced Sikhism several years ago and wears a turban, which is seen as a symbol of honor, sovereignty, equality and commitment to God’s will, the report by Daily Mail added.
The event was hosted by Hollywood exec Mike Medavoy and his wife Irene, along with Pam Abdy and Warner Bros’ co-chairman and CEO Mike De Luca.
Star-studded attendees included Al Pacino and Baz Luhrmann, but it was DiCaprio’s folks who were the guests of honor.
The last time the actor was seen with his stepmom and dad was a Los Angeles Lakers game on March 20, sitting in the VIP courtside section. DiCaprio’s girlfriend, Vittoria Ceretti, 27, was also along for the fun.
Leonardo DiCaprio has long maintained a very close relationship with his dad, 82, who separated from the actor’s mother Irmelin Indenbirken shortly after he was born and married Farrar two decades later in 1995.
DiCaprio’s dad struggled financially during the actor’s early childhood and found work as an installer of asbestos and fireproof roofing before launching a waterbed business called Foggy Bottom.
The elder DiCaprio also enjoyed a career in Hollywood as a comic writer, editor and distributor while helping to steer his son’s career in the early days.
The actor’s father had a small role in Paul Thomas Anderson’s 1970s-set coming-of-age comedy Licorice Pizza inspired by his past career as a waterbed salesman.
Ever the generous son, Leonardo DiCaprio often includes his dad and stepmom in his travels, including a luxurious holiday in Naples on the Amalfi Coast in June 2023 where they were seen dining al fresco at the world-famous restaurant Lo Scoglio da Tommaso.
Meanwhile, DiCaprio recently shared how he believes Titanic allowed him to become the ‘conductor of [his] own choices.’
The actor starred alongside Kate Winslet in the record-breaking movie back in 1997, and DiCaprio admits that the James Cameron-directed project changed the course of his career.
Asked if had any regrets about appearing in the movie, DiCaprio told Deadline: ‘No regrets.
‘I mean, fully now in retrospect, I look back at that film and realize the thanks and the appreciation that I have for being a part of it, and to have been able to be in this incredibly fortunate position and not only to have been a part of that movie, but to be able to be the conductor of my own choices since.’
DiCaprio found that Titanic’s success gave him the freedom to pick and choose the projects he wanted to work on. As a result, he considers Titanic to have been a huge turning point in his career.
He said: ‘That has been just the greatest gift.’
In September, DiCaprio revealed his dad saved the day when a former agent told him ‘Leonardo’ was ‘too ethnic’ for Hollywood and tried to change his name to Lenny.
During an appearance on the New Heights podcast, DiCaprio recalled: ‘I go, ‘What do you mean, it’s Leonardo DiCaprio?’ They go, ‘No, too ethnic. They’re never going to hire you.”
He was told: ”Your new name is Lenny Williams.’ I said, ‘What is Lenny?’ … ‘We took your middle name [Wilhelm] and we made it your [last name]. Now you’re Lenny.”
However, DiCaprio’s dad was quick to rubbish the idea.
The actor – whose films credits include Catch Me If You Can, The Departed and The Wolf of Wall Street – explained: ‘My dad saw his photo, ripped it up, and he said, ‘Over my dead body.”
