Julia Fox came to Taylor Swift’s defense as she called out ‘crazy’ NFL fans who ‘blame’ the superstar anytime Travis Kelce’s team loses.
The 35-year-old model said it is unduly unfair when Swift and other WAGs receive hate for how their respective partners perform in football games.
Julia Fox pointed out how some fans frequently fault the wives and girlfriends of the athletes rather than the athletes themselves.
‘Like, if a guy loses a game, it’s a girl’s “fault,” like his girlfriend’s “fault”,’ Fox said during an interview with Australian outlet Pedestrian.TV earlier this week. ‘It’s just crazy.’
‘And all the superstitions and all the irrational a** s*** that these men believe, you know, that ultimately leads to a woman being blamed,’ she continued.
Then, the actress — who stars in the new thriller Him, which is set in the world of professional football — used the pop singer’s fiancé, who is a tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, as an example.
‘I remember Travis Kelce lost a game, and then people were saying that it was Taylor’s Swift’s fault. It was just like, “What? That’s crazy!”
‘But you know, blame women — they love to do that,’ she continued.
Then, Julia Fox sarcastically quipped: ‘It’s like, oh, I didn’t know we were so powerful. So you’re admitting that we are powerful? So you’re admitting it?’
During the same interview, the actress opened up about taking inspiration from real-life WAGs like Swift when building her character in her new thriller film: Him.
The movie is set in the world of professional football, and Fox plays influencer Elsie White.
For her role, Julia Fox explained how she initially watched reality TV to help her get into character.
‘I rewatched some Basketball Wives,’ she recalled. ‘That’s what I did to prep for the role. I watched reality TV.’
She added: ‘And then when I got to set, I assumed that Justin [Tipping, the director of the movie,] would then want me to transform into these women that I’ve just been watching.’
‘And he was kinda like, “No, stay exactly as you are.”
‘Then I realized,’ she continued. ‘It was because in Elsie’s mind, she’s not like the other WAGs — she’s better than them.’
‘She’s more cosmopolitan and she loves fashion and art and travel, more refined and sophisticated. She just has a lot more to prove, given that she comes from not such a great place.’
Fox also spoke about how football players’ relationships tend to be ‘so heavily publicized that you can’t escape’ seeing and hearing about them.
‘Eventually, you do find yourself reading the gossip or whatever, the tabloids. It kinda piques your curiosity,’ she admitted.
She said working on her latest film ‘was an opportunity to get a little taste of what that might be like.’
‘The stakes are so high and the pressure is so much. It seems like such an intense world,’ she said.
‘It’s definitely not for me,’ she admitted. ‘I definitely have a newfound respect for people in that world — especially the women.’
