Made In Chelsea’s Joshua Patterson has opened up about the heartbreaking sudden death of his godson.

The reality star’s godson Archie tragically passed away in June 2024 from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) at just three months of age.

Now, Joshua has taken on a gruelling challenge at Bolivia’s Cerro Uturunco volcano to raise money to help families affected by child loss.

Joshua Patterson took to Instagram to reveal he had ran the marathon earlier this month, and a JustGiving page shows he has raised a whopping £25,000 for The Baby Loss Club as a result

The record-breaking marathon saw Joshua complete the run across the volcano at the highest altitude ever recorded.

Sharing the news of the completed challenge, Joshua wrote: ‘A new World Record. Coined the “Zombie Volcano” due to its ongoing signs of unrest over the last 250,000 years, Bolivia’s Cerro Uturunco is 6,008 metres of intricate lava domes and flows.

‘The challenge? To run a marathon across it at the highest altitude ever recorded.

‘With a route starting West of Quetena Grande heading towards Campamento Minero Uturuncu, the journey was tough. Battling through oxygen levels that dropped by half, limited water supplies, temperatures of -16 °C, and a subconscious voice urging surrender at every turn, the finish line was met right on the mark.’

Sharing the heartbreaking story of Archie’s death last year, Josh set up a JustGiving page so people could donate to the charity.

He wrote: ‘On the 16th June 2024, my Godson, Archie Oliver, tragically died from SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) at just three months old. His life was short, but his memory will live on through us all.

‘His mum Emily, his dad George, and his family and friends are setting up a new charity called The Baby Loss Club.

‘Created after the sudden loss of Archie, it addresses the absence of support and community for anyone affected by baby loss. Their mission is to ensure no one feels alone, invisible or unsupported, and ultimately, they aim to fund 1 million free therapy sessions for those affected by baby loss.

‘Archie will inspire us all in different ways. He is the reason I am taking on my next challenge, my way of continuing his legacy.’

Joshua Patterson added: ‘On the 16th September 2025, I will attempt to break the world record for running a marathon at the highest altitude, on Mount Uturunco, which spans 6,000+ metres high.

‘With a strong possibility of altitude sickness affecting me from 2,500m, and unpredictable weather conditions.

‘The summit temperature of the mountain of recent has been as low as -34°C, with 100km/h winds. Experts estimate the extreme conditions could slow me to just 1–2 kilometres in an hour…this challenge comes with so much uncertainty.’

Joshua Patterson continued: ‘But my “WHY” is clear. Just like grief, climbing feels overwhelming, difficult, and at times impossible. Archie’s legacy is about showing what can come from adversity.

‘His passing is a tragedy, but his legacy will be a celebration, one with meaning that will impact lives for years to come.

‘The grief we feel will never go away, but life is precious and together we choose to honour Archie by making our time count and helping as many people as possible.’
