Laurence Fishburne revealed that he was more than willing to appear in the fourth installment of the Matrix franchise, DailyMail reports.
According to the report by DailyMail, Laurence Fishburne was asked if he’d ever consider returning to franchise as his character Morpheus from the original trilogy, after his absence from 2021’s The Matrix Resurrections.
‘It depends on the circumstances — who is involved, how well the script has been written, if they offer me,’ Laurence Fishburne, 63, said, with some doubt that would happen.
‘Cause, you know, I offered my services to the fourth Matrix, and they didn’t respond well,’ he added during an appearance on The View to promote his new film Amateur.
‘So hey, it’s not like I didn’t say, “Oh, I’d like to offer my services.” I did.
‘And for whatever reason, that didn’t happen. Okay. But that’s the truth,’ he added. ‘So we’ll see.’
Laurence Fishburne previously talked about not being cast in Resurrection in 2020 with Vulture, saying he had ‘not been invited’ to reprise the role of Morpheus.
‘Maybe that will make me write another play. I wish them well. I hope it’s great,’ he added.
After seeing the movie, Variety asked him in October 2022 if he felt he’d missed out by not being in the film.
‘Not really,’ he said, before heaping praise on his co-stars Keanu Reeves, 60, and Carrie-Ann Moss, 57.
‘But I thought Carrie-Anne and Keanu really did their thing,’ the actor said.
He also said that the movie ‘wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be,’ though he admitted, ‘And it wasn’t as good as I hoped it would be.’
By the time of the setting of The Matrix Resurrection, Morpheus is long dead and Neo and Trinity interact with an AI-version of him.
The first three Matrix films were directed by Lana and Lilly Wachowski while the fourth was helmed solely by Lana.
Fishburne is currently promoting the action-espionage drama The Amateur, starring Rami Malek as Charlie Heller, a CIA analyst who is on a vengeance mission after his wife is killed in a terrorist attack.
Fishburne plays Henderson, a retired colonel specializing in training field agents who come into Heller’s orbit.
The film hits theaters on April 11th and also stars Rachel Brosnahan, Jon Bernthal and Caitriona Balfe.

He went on to talk about how culturally relevant the films are even today, 26 years after the first Matrix film debuted.
‘I had no idea it would become so iconic. But I did know it was the most original thing I had ever read. I had never come across anything like it.
‘It’s so ingrained in the public psyche — everyone is always talking about “I’m going down the rabbit hole” or “red pill, blue pill.”
‘It also borrowed from the Chinese school of action movies, advancing and improving the American school of action work.
‘Since we made that movie, the idea that you can exist in different worlds is now a staple of moviemaking.
‘“Everything Everywhere All at Once” is the best version of that,’ he said.
