Paris Hilton has returned a dog to its original owners after housing it amid the Los Angeles wildfires.
The 43-year-old Paris Hilton heiress took to Instagram on Monday to share the moment a small brown chihuahua mix named Zuzu was reunited with a mom and son.
Zuzu’s original family was displaced following the devastating fires that swept through the city earlier this month.
Posting a video, Paris Hilton shared the sentimental moment the family members arrived at her door to retrieve the canine, adding an emotional caption.
‘Letting go is never easy, but moments like this remind me why fostering is so important ❤️,’ she wrote to her nearly 27 million followers.
The clip began with the blonde socialite cradling the tiny dog in her arms with sadness in her eyes.
‘I’m going to miss you,’ she said while holding the dog close before explaining to the camera, ‘Zuzu’s family is outside right now, coming to pick her up.’
Paris Hilton, who lost her Malibu mansion in the Palisades Fire, continued in the caption: ‘Zuzu came into my life during one of the most heartbreaking times, and she was truly a beacon of hope. Saying goodbye to her was so hard, but seeing her family’s faces when they arrived to bring her home made it all worth it.
‘The love between Zuzu and her family is so special, and I’m so happy they’re reunited after everything they’ve been through. I’ll always cherish the time I had with her and can’t wait to foster again.’
She added, ‘Thank you, @PasadenaHumane, for making moments like this possible.’
Paris Hilton, dressed in a hot pink velour zip-up hoodie, a black T-shirt, and sparkly black lounge pants, hugged the boy’s mother and expressed condolences for their loss.
‘Love you for doing this. I really appreciate it,’ the brunette woman told Paris.
And the former Simple Life personality also showered the visitors with surprise gifts she prepared for them.
‘I’ll always be your sliving mom,’ she told the pooch before they separated.
And she noted, ‘She’s gonna make other people want to foster and adopt dogs too. This is my first time doing something like this.’
The multihyphenate businesswoman said she wants to use her influence to inspire others to adopt animals.
After losing her Malibu home in the blaze, Hilton launched an emergency fund, starting with a $100,000 donation to other victims.
Along with her generous contribution, she revealed that she will match ‘additional dollars raised up to $100,000 more.’
Over 100,000 Los Angeles residents were forced to flee their homes and dozens have been confirmed dead as a result of the firestorms, which began with the Palisades Fire.
The devastation in Southern California began on the morning of January 7 when the combination of heavy wind and a lack of rain created the perfect condition for a brush fire.
The Eaton Fire burned over 14,000 acres while the Palisades Fire scorched nearly 24,000 acres.
