Kato Kaelin who was a witness for the prosecution in O.J. Simpson’s infamous 1995 murder case, has joined others to react to the death of former NFL star turned actor.
Brian “Kato” Kaelin, a key witness in O.J. Simpson’s infamous 1995 murder trial for the killings of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman, released a video statement to Instagram on April 11 in the wake of Simpson’s death on April 10 at 76, where he memorialized the two murder victims as well as expressed condolences to Simpson’s children.
“I’ve been asked to comment on the death of O.J. Simpson,” he led off his post. “Foremost, I’d like to express my condolences to the children, to Sydney and to Justin, to Jason and Arnelle, they lost their father, and that is never easy.”
Kato Kaelin continued, “I wish to express my love and compassion to the Goldmans, to Fred and to Kim, I hope you find closure. And finally, to the family of the beautiful Nicole Brown Simpson, may we always cherish her memories. Nicole was a beacon of light that burned bright. May we never forget her.”
Kato Kaelin was a guest at Simpson’s Rockingham, Calif., estate on June 12, 1994, on the night that the two murders took place. He was a witness to Simpson’s movements before and after the time of the murders, per the Chicago Tribune. His testimony contradicted that of Simpson regarding the timing of events and the athlete’s demeanor before the murders.
Despite the evidence he provided, prosecutor Marcia Clark, who initially called on him to participate in the trial, declared Kaelin a hostile witness, per the publication.
In the years after the trial, Kaelin starred in a series of television shows and made-for-television movies, per his IMDb page. He has starred in shows such as Tosh.0, Can’t Get Arrested, Winners and Baskets. Since 2011, he has hosted the show Tailgating with Kato.
Kaelin, who identifies himself in his Instagram bio as a “Former house guest. Current adult, living behind my own house,” keeps his profile on the platform filled with videos of himself filming while driving around and making jokes about things he sees, along with other comedic bits.
The actor was previously married to Cynthia Coulter from 1983 to 1989.
He is also father to a daughter named Tiffany Kaelin, who works as a fashion stylist, per her Instagram.
