Marvel's Wonder Man Crew Member Dies Following Accident On Set

Marvel’s Wonder Man crew member has died following an accident. The company confirmed in a statement, saying, “Our thoughts and deepest condolences.”

Marvel’s Wonder Man crew member, a rigger working on Marvel’s upcoming series died Feb. 6 after falling from the rafters while on set, Marvel confirmed.

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family and friends,” the company said in a statement to Deadline. “And our support is behind the investigation into the circumstances of this accident.”

The Marvel’s Wonder Man crew member was later identified as Juan Carlos Osorio, 41, of Temple City, Calif., the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to E! News.

The LAPD is not treating the incident as suspicious, with spokesperson Charles Miller telling CNN, “No foul play is suspected.” However, police told E! that the investigation is ongoing.

Wonder Man is an upcoming Disney+ series starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley, the latter of whom is reprising his role from Iron Man 3. Based on the comic series of the same name, Abdul-Mateen stars as Simon Williams, a Hollywood actor and stunt man who is thrust into the world of heroes when he gets is own powers and becomes Wonder Man.

However, the show was not filming at the time following productions delays stemming the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

Marvel isn’t the only studio to grapple with harrowing on-set accidents. Dylan O’Brien has been vocal about extra precautions he now takes following his 2016 accident on the set of Maze Runner: The Death Cure, which saw the actor sustain serious injuries including a concussion, facial fracture and lacerations after being struck by a vehicle while filming a stunt.

“Whenever I’m putting on a rig, I’m vetting every piece of that rig and much more,” he told Variety in 2020. “Even to this day, if I’m on set and I’m doing a stunt, if I’m in a rig, if there’s some action going on, I am slightly irritable. There is a degree of anxiety in me that I don’t think there’s ever not going to be.”
