Abibatu Mogaji: Tinubu Pays Tributes To Mother 10 Years After

President Bola Tinubu has paid glowing tributes to his late mother, Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji on the 10th anniversary of her death. 

Tinubu, in a tribute on his verified Twitter page, relived the memories of how his late mother instilled the values of hard work and forthrightness in him.

Tinubu said: “10 years ago, today, my darling mother, Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji passed away. 

“On this day, I remember her love, grit, devotion and generosity. 

“I will always cherish the time we had together and the values of hard work, forthrightness and perseverance she instilled in me. 

“May Allah continue to rest her beautiful soul.”

Mogaji, 96, died in 2013.

She was until her death the President General of Lagos State Market Women Association.

Abibatu Mogaji:

Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji was born on October 23, 1916 and left for the world beyond on June 15, 2013. She was born into the prominent Mogaji family in the heart of central Lagos, ‘Ita Igarawu’.

Alhaja Mogaji enrolled as a pupil in a koranic school. She was able to recite the Koran with ease after a short period in the school. She started petty trading. Her trading activities flourished. She became a distributor of some major products.

Alhaja Mogaji was an astute business woman who wisely invested money. She was not a reckless spender, rather preferred to give always to the needy from her business proceeds. Her philanthropic inclination is legendary.

Mogaji later became an active member of the market association in Lagos Island. The market association was then headed by the late Madam Pelewura. Alhaja Mogaji’s qualities, was able to mobilise people for a common goal, earned her widespread recognition and love.

Alhaja Mogaji became a staunch follower and supporter of Madam Pelewura. Madam Pelewura on her part was equally a fire-brand leader who brooked no nonsense as she went about her activities as the leader of the Market Women Association, Mogaji got a lot of training from her.
