The home of convicted Belgian serial killer Marc Dutroux has been demolished in Marcinelle, AFP reports.
The demolition of the house belonging to Marc Dutroux located in Sars-la-Buissière, in the municipality of Lobbes (Belgium), started on Monday and the operation is expected to last about ten days, according to AFP.
Twenty-six years ago, the house was the scene of the worst abuse of young girls. The bodies of missing Julie and Mélissa had also been found there, buried in the garden, revealing the atrocity of their executioner.
The mayor of Lobbes, Lucien Bauduin, expressed his relief at seeing this “house of horror” disappear daily Le Soir reports.
“It is very satisfying to see the demolition of the house begin today. This puts an end to a sad and serious episode in the region. I contacted the parents of Julie and Mélissa last week to tell them the news. Together, after the demolition, we will consider a future for the site”.
A very supervised construction site
In order not to hinder the progress of the work and avoid voyeurism, the site will be monitored 24 hours a day, as TéléSambre reports.
“Police patrols will crisscross the area around the house. The site will be secured by barriers and anyone who enters it will be prosecuted by the prosecution, said Lucien Bauduin.
This time, no more question of urban explorations for lovers of abandoned houses. And for good reason, the house of Marc Dutroux had been visited many times by followers of “urbex” who had notably filmed the cellar which had served as a tomb for the young girls.
From now on, a memorial in tribute to the victims should be built in place of the house, as was done after the demolition of his home in Marcinelle.
