President Weah of Liberia is being attacked and slandered on social media by fans for praising son, Timothy Weah for presenting the United States football team at the ongoing Qatar FIFA world cup 2022, and not Liberia, where he is currently their President.

President George Weah who had taken to his official social media handle to send a congratulatory message to his son Timothy Weah who is among the 26-man squad that will be flying the flag of the United States of America in Qatar, saying a father’s dream has come true with a photo of his son in the United States senior football national team jersey, did not go down well with some Liberia fans.

He posted a series of photos of his son with a caption that says:

A father’s proud dream comes true go Timothy Weah”, he said.

One football fan reacting to the comment had this to say:

Father played for Liberia and today, he’s serving his fatherland as president, that’s enough patriotism and sacrifice. Son can choose where ever he wants to play for, it’s his life and moreover, he’s an American citizen. there’s absolutely no problem with that” the fan said.

Another fan who was not pleased with the post and caption said:

Father is president of another country, and the son is playing football in another man’s country. irony. funny,” he said.

Sorry Mr George, but this must be a joke“, said another.

Another asked: “Why isn’t your son playing for Liberia?

Your dream miss road come through for another country“.

“Your dream that your son represents USA instead of Liberia and your President of Liberia,” another put.

Timothy Weah, is among the 26 players selected to represent the United States at the World Cup in Qatar. Born in Brooklyn 22 years ago. The winger made his debut for the U.S. in 2018. This will be his first World Cup.

The 56-year-old president was expected to arrive in Qatar on Tuesday for a nine-day stay. That gives him the chance to be there when the U.S. takes on Wales in its opening game at the tournament on Monday.

George Weah sent a letter to the Liberian Senate earlier this month informing them of his travel plans. He said that he would be at the World Cup from Nov. 15-23 following official trips to Morocco, Egypt and France. First Lady Clar Weah, mother of Tim, is also reportedly on the trip.
