French multinational retail and wholesaling corporation Carrefour and the government of France, have ordered a recall of the Carrefour Organic tortilla chips as the flour used to manufacture the chips could contain a molecule dangerous to health, AFP reports.

According to the report, authorities have asked customers of the Carrefour brand organic tortilla chips who purchased the product between January 22 and July 22, 2022, should not consume them, as the brand has indeed recalled this product for health risk.

The corn flour with which these organic tortilla chips are made is suspected to contain traces of tropane alkaloids . These molecules, which can be found in several types of plants, such as datura, are toxic and present health risks. Ingesting them in too high a dose can lead to headaches and nausea in particular, the report by AFP revealed.

The products subject to this recall are sold in 125 gram packs and have GTIN lot number 3560070419456.

On the product recall sheet published on the government site, consumers are reminded to “no longer consume” these crisps, to “return them to the point of sale”, and to “contact consumer service”. By returning these packets of crisps to the store, customers will be eligible for a refund.
The Carrefour consumer service can be reached on 0805 900 022.
