The likes of Peter Obi, who is the Presidential candidate under the Labour Party and Presidential aspirants of Tinubu, Vice President Osinbajo, Ameachi from the ruling party of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Chief Atiku Abubakar who is the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have all released separate statements reacting to the Owo massacre where over 50 innocent worshippers were killed during a church service at St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo state on Sunday.

Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu who is looking to clinch the Presidential ticket of the APC after their primaries come Wednesday, took to his official social media handle on Sunday, where he tweeted saying:

“I strongly condemn the evil and brutal attack that took place at the St Francis Catholic Church, Owaluwa, Ondo State, this morning. I pray healing and comfort for the injured and the bereaved,” he said

The already confirmed Presidential candidate for the Labour Party (LP) Peter Obi taking to his official social media handle described the Owo massacre as:

“What happened in Owo today again adds to my position that our country is fast becoming a failed state. All must now join hands in saving our country from this existential situation we find ourselves in today.

I sympathise with the victims’ families, the Catholic Diocese of Ondo, the people and the Government of Ondo State. I urge the Federal Government and Ondo State Government to do whatever is possible to ensure that perpetrators of the dastardly act are brought to book. -PO,” he said.

Also, another confirmed Presidential candidate under the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, in a statement by his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, Sunday also condemned the Owo massacre, saying ” any such attack on a worship centre as unacceptable”.

The statement partly read “Any attack on innocent citizens indeed of a gathering of worshippers in any place in Nigeria stands condemned; it is a red line,” Atiku said.

“My prayers are with the people of Owo, especially families of the deceased. I do hope that the state government and relevant security agencies will leave no stones unturned in apprehending the criminals.

“I condole with all the affected families; the St. Francis Catholic Church Owa-luwa; the body of Catholic faithful in Nigeria and the people and government of Ondo State.

“Even as I pray that someday, very soon, we shall have a lasting solution to these painful episodes, I urge the security agencies not to relent in their efforts to fish out the culprits and bring them to justice,” he said about the Owo massacre.

Chibuike Amaechi, on his part also condemned the Owo massacre calling it senseless murder, saying:

“I condemn the terrible, absolutely vile & senseless murder of innocent citizens @ the St Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Owo. Our Security Agencies in collaboration with Govt at all levels need to step up intelligence & work round the clock to nip such acts of terror in the bud,” he added.

Vice President Prof Yemi Osinbajo also took to his handle to condemn the Owo massacre, and was the first to call it a massacre, where he said:

“I am saddened by the senseless massacre of innocent people in Owo. My deepest condolences go to the families whose hearts are broken and are grasping for answers. We are united in grief and a resolve to defeat the cowards who unleash terror on defenseless people,” he added.
