France Presidential candidate Macron has detailed his pension reform which aims to gradually raise the legal retirement age to 65, AFP reports.

France Presidential candidate Macron revealed this in an interview with BFMTV on Monday.

“People who offer you a free shave are lying to you,” the France Presidential candidate Emmanuel Macron who qualified in the second round of the presidential election returned to his pension reform project.

According to the report by AFP, while Emmanuel Macron who is standing for re-election wants to rally voters who did not vote for him in the second round, he nevertheless made it clear that he did not intend to go back to a legal starting age of 60, like the suggested Jean-Luc Mélenchon .

“Coming back to 60 when our life expectancy continues to increase, you have to explain to me how we finance it”, assures Emmanuel Macron.

“I could tell you if I was a demagogue and wanted to be elected” we will do retirement at 60″, but who finances it? You pay more contributions and you reduce purchasing power, I ask retirees to lower their pensions? I am not a magician.”

The Presidential candidate Macron reaffirmed his wish to raise the legal retirement age to 65, a measure intended, according to him, to “balance the pension system”

“The only way we have, as we live longer, is to contribute longer”, justified Emmanuel Macron on BFMTV.

Macron who came out on top in the first round this Sunday recalls that the transition will be gradual up to four months per year of contribution.

Emmanuel Macron nevertheless promises to “coordinate” to “collectively improve” his reform.

“We are not going to do it overnight, promised the outgoing president about this contested measure.

He who says he is ready to discuss the “rhythm and limits” of this reform, does not rule out resorting to a referendum either.

The president-candidate finally recalled that he defended a minimum pension of 1100 euros for a full career.

“I do not want to divide the country”, continued Emmanuel Macron, considering however that “the special regimes no longer suit the reality of the country”.
