The Presidential candidate of the National Rally of France, Marine Le Pen has refuted claims of being friends and having financial ties with the embattled Russian leader, Vladimir Putin.
Marine Le Pen as reported by French news network BFMTV, made this clarification on Tuesday night when she appeared on the program La France dans les yeux and she was questioned by several French people about her links with the leader of the Kremlin.
“I have never dubbed anyone,” Marine Le Pen said.
Since the start of the Russian invasion in Ukraine, the National Rally candidate has been singled out several times for her links with the Russian president, whom she met in 2017.
“The French can always count on my impartiality. I don’t have a bond of friendship with Vladimir Putin, whom I met once in my life […] but I don’t even have a financial bond with him,” she said, referring to the loan she took out from a Czech-Russian bank.
“When you make a loan for a car or a home in France, you have no connection, are not subject to Emmanuel Macron […] the only obligation I have is to repay this loan “, continued Marine Le Pen, saying that the only thing that interests her is “the interest of France and the French”.
The report also stated that when she was pressed on her refusal to call Putin a “war criminal” Marine Le Pen argued that President Emmanuel Macron had also rejected the use of this term.
“In a month I can become President of the French Republic. I do not think that starting to insult the various protagonists of this war is likely to make it possible to find a way towards the end of this war”, justified the candidate of the RN.
“Having words that are final words in the context of a diplomatic negotiation does not seem to me to be the right solution,” she finally concluded.
