France President Macron will on Friday, declare his intention to run for a second term as President, AFP reports.

According to the report, the news ends weeks-long speculations on whether or not the French President will run for a second term.

France President Emmanuel Macron in a letter on Thursday stated that he will announce his candidacy for the presidential election, which will be published this Friday morning in the regional press, BFMTV revealed.

BFMTV also revealed that the letter will be put online this Thursday evening on several regional press title sites.

Macron who has been busy with the war in Ukraine, have waited until the last moment to formalize his candidacy for a second term, which the candidates must formalize before Friday 6 p.m. He has already gathered all the sponsorship necessary to run, with a total of 1,785 signatures from local elected officials validated by the Constitutional Council – well beyond the 500 required

Emmanuel Macron won the French presidential election, defeating far-right candidate Marine Le Pen in 2017.

Mr Macron’s win then ended the decades-long dominance of the two traditional main left-wing and right-wing parties.
